President David Granger presented two hampers to Charles Allicock of Herstelling, East
Bank Demerara, when he joined with him to celebrate his 100th birthday.
Mr. Allicock, who was born on March 21, 1916, had often expressed a desire to meet the President. As such, his relatives wrote to President Granger inviting him to join in the centenary birthday celebrations, which was organised by Mr. Allicock’s caretaker, Mrs. Bibi Fagu, and his neighbours.
President Granger said that he was pleased to spend this special time with Guyana’s latest centenarian as he expressed his best wishes to him.
“I want to wish you a happy birthday. I am happy that you are in good spirits and we all want to wish you happiness and long life. We want to share in prayers for you to be comfortable and in good health. May God bless you,” the President said.
Mr. Allicock, who is a United States citizen, re-migrated to Guyana 16 years ago. He is the father of 19, grandfather of 40 and has numerous great grandchildren.
According to relatives, despite his age, Mr. Allicock is as sharp as a pin. (GINA)
