Trawler collides with Harbour Bridge
Commuters who traverse the Demerara Harbour Bridge on a daily basis would have panicked yesterday afternoon after news spread of a trawler colliding with a section of the structure.

The incident which occurred sometime around 13:00hrs, came quickly under control after employees scrambled to maintain order at the bridge where long lines had already begun to develop.
Speaking to the General Manager of the Demerara Harbour Bridge Corporation (DHBC) Rawlston Adams, at around 15:45 hrs yesterday, it was revealed that while the trawler had struck a section of the bridge, it did not compromise it in anyway.
Commuters can continue to use the bridge as usual, he said.
However, a thorough assessment will still have to be conducted and this would depend on the tide. The assessment he said, would have to be done this morning.
Adams stated that the trawler does not belong to any local business and the persons onboard do not speak English. Due to this, all efforts to find out what would have caused the incident have thus far, been futile.
Adams continued that the Maritime Administration Department (MARAD) and the Guyana Police Force (GPF) have already been informed of the mishap and are currently investigating.
