….over 337 benefited from previous programme – Dr. Norton
Another batch of Patient Care Assistants commenced training Tuesday at the
Georgetown Public Hospital and Public Health Minister George Norton urged them to deliver the best quality of health care to their patients when they are finished.
The 10th batch of assistants was encouraged to be committed, respectful, compassionate and patient when attending to their patients.
“I want to encourage you to take full advantage of the training you will be provided with over the next six months, and to also grasp at other training opportunities in the future,” he said, insisting that the public health care system is people-oriented and that a “chain is as strong as its weakest link”.
Hence, Norton stated that his Ministry is making every effort to ensure that “each link” in the health care system is strong. He said the Ministry over the years, has proven its commitment in supporting persons who pursue continuing medical education, especially through training programmes.
So far approximately 337 persons have benefitted from this programme which lasts for roughly six months. This new batch will be trained in the basics of Psychology, Food and Nutrition, Occupational Health and Safety and the care of hospital equipment.
Norton noted that Patient Care Assistants are as important as doctors and nurses, since they are responsible for making patients comfortable.
“The wealth of a nation is its people’s health. It is therefore of significant importance that you work in tandem with other health care workers to ensure the delivery of the best quality of health care services,” he added, wishing them a successful training exercise.
Acting Chief Executive Officer of the hospital, Allan Johnson, further encouraged the trainees to take advantage of the opportunity and develop themselves.
