The Ministry of Public Health, will be hosting a Suicide Awareness Walk and Interfaith Service later this week.
Under the theme, “Love yourself! Stay Alive! Let’s stand together!” The event is scheduled for Saturday with the starting point being the National Park (Thomas Lands Entrance) from 6am.
Participants will then continue on to Sandy Babb Street, Kitty, right onto Duncan Street, then left onto Vlissengen Road. The walk will end at Square of the Revolution.
Over the past few months, several government and non-governmental (NGO) agencies have got onboard to address the sudden spike in suicide-related deaths in Guyana.
Various services, including help lines, have been set up to provide comfort to those in need.
The religious society has also begun to play their part where several walks, outreaches and prayer sessions were held across the country along with the establishing of help lines of their own.
This walk is expected to see turnout from many of these entities who have expressed their gratitude in the Ministry’s initiative.
Vice-President of the Caribbean Voice, Bibi Ahamad, yesterday, she stated, “This is a very good initiative. It is in the right direction. This is most welcomed by the Caribbean Voice…We have been calling for this for some time now.”
Please share this to every Guyanese including your house cats.
