Bartica/Three Miles Secondary School Board of Governors in collaboration with the Region
Seven Department of Education, GBTI and Scotia Bank honoured the Teachers of the Year and the most improved Teachers of the Year – September 2014- July 2015.
The simple ceremony was held last Thursday at Leanna’s Kiddies Park, Bartica. It coincided with Guyana’s 46th Republic Anniversary celebration.
Addressing the gathering, which included the awardees, Headteachers of the Nursery and Primary Schools, and Regional Officials were Regional Education Officer, Charles Holmes and Chairman of the School Board of Governors, Ms Rita Brouet.
Brief remarks from the Regional Executive Officer were read by a representative – Ms. Ceana Persaud.
The teachers were commended for rising above the challenges and for executing their task with diligence.
In her remarks, the Board Chairman called for adaptability, learning from failure and for the development of skills to keep up with the ever-changing demands and opportunities available.
Eleven teachers were honored. There were five categories.
* Female Teacher of the Year: Stacy Mc Cubbin- of Bartica Secondary School. She received a tablet donated by GBTI.
*Male Teacher of the Year: Keoma Williams- of Three Miles Secondary School. He received a tablet donated by the School Board.
Most Improved Teachers: Rosalie Perreira and Liseanne Jones of Bartica Secondary and Three Miles Secondary School respectively.
Special Awards were given to Paulette Peters for her consistent performance, Deon Persaud for
Outstanding Student Achievement at National Competitions and Onica Chisholm for outstanding student performance (CSEC).
The Headteachers’ Special Awards were given to Debra Gomes of Three Miles Secondary and Carmel Williams of Bartica Secondary School.
Two teachers, Analie DeCamp and Crystal Joseph, received the Scotia Bank Special Commendation award.
The night featured poetry, songs, steel pan music, a brief on each awardee and folk renditions. Those receiving awards were grateful that their efforts were recognised hence the tokens in the form of electronic devices, crystal plaques, monetary awards and other tokens.
The three-hour event was the School Board’s second ceremony to motivate improvement in education.
