The recent Jubilee Children’s Costume Parade Finals, which was held on Saturday last, saw children from various schools across the country competing.
In a spectacular display of talent and patriotism, Georgetown and its environs shook as hundreds, maybe thousands of children boogied through the streets in their colourful costumes which gained much attention from pedestrians and vehicle operators.
Nursery Band
In the Nursery Band Category, Smyth Street Nursery grabbed first place with their performance entitled, “Angels of love – a Ray of hope. They were awarded a trophy and $80,000.
Second place went to the Roxanne Burnham Nursery with their depiction of “Diversity of flowers blooming in unity”, they received a trophy along with $60,000. `
Receiving a trophy and $40,000, East Street Nursery took third with their presentation, “Celebration pot” which was followed by the Head Start Nursery’s “Jubilation – a joyous celebration”. They were awarded a trophy.
Primary Band
Copping first place with their performance, “Defending our sovereignty – Not one Cuirass, not a drop of water”, the St. Stephen’s Primary was awarded a trophy and $100,000.
The second place went to North Georgetown Primary for their presentation, “All we mashing in we jubilee”. They were awarded a trophy and $80,000.
Sophia Primary, with their item entitled, “Not one Blue Sackie” received third place along with a trophy and $60,000.
Fourth place went to St Agnes Primary who received a trophy for their presentation of “Unity through diversity.”
Secondary Band
In the Secondary Schools Category, Tutorial High School with their performance, “A celebration of music” copped first place and carted off a trophy along with $100,000.
Grabbing second, along with a trophy and $80,000, was Cummings Lodge Secondary with their presentation of “Together we celebrate our nation’s achievements”.
“Celebrating our diversity through culture and ethnicity Golden Jubilee”, was exhibited by Queen’s College who gained third place, a trophy and $60,000 followed by St. John’s College’s “Royal Celebration” which gained them a trophy.
Individual Presentation
Representing Belle West Primary, Cassie McKenzie with her “Golden 50”, copped first place and received a trophy along with $30,000 gift voucher in the Individual presentation.
Second place went to Chateau Margot Primary with their presentation, “Lightening Queen”. They were presented a trophy and a $20,000 gift voucher.
Third place went to Jaden Broomes with his presentation, “El Dorado sparkles in its 50th glory” which gained him a trophy and a $10,000 gift voucher while fourth place and a trophy went to Goed Fortuin Primary with their item entitled, “School days too sweet”.
Other Children Organisations
National School of Dance took first place in this category with their presentation “Welcoming the year of the Jaguar”. They were awarded a trophy and $100,000.
Second place was secured by the Craft Production and Design Division who were awarded with a trophy and $80,000 for their presentation, “Celebrating craft and tourism through diversity, unity and sovereignty at Mashramani.”
Grabbing third, a trophy and $60,000, was the David Rose School for the Handicapped Children with their performance “Jubilee Splendour” while a trophy was awarded to the Guyana Police Youth Groups ‘A’ Division with their presentation entitled, “Fusing our culture heritage through independence.”
REGIONAL PRESENTATION
In the Regional category, the regions contesting all received trophies. Region Four (Demerara/Mahaica) took first place with presentation, “Unification of our cultural heritages- Celebration of freedom”.
Region Three (Essequibo Islands/West Demerara) took second place with “3B’s and a garden” followed by Region Ten’s (Upper Demerara/Berbice) “Proud to be fifty”.
Meanwhile, Region Five (Mahiaca/West Berbice) gained fourth place with their presentation, “Expressions of protection, togetherness and development.”
