Managing Director of Roshan Satar and Son Supermarket, Sahidrul Satar of Cumberland Village, East Canje, Berbice is once again providing sponsorship for the annual fund raiser of the Young Warriors Cricket Club of
Cumberland, East Canje, Berbice – Mash Cup 2016.
The Supermarket has supported this event from the beginning. At the presentation ceremony held recently, the Managing Director said that he is once again happy to be part of this annual event. Satar said that it is important as a businessman to give back to such an important event that will help develop the community in which they operate. He further stated that he is impressed with the work of the club in helping so many youths to stay constructively occupied and at the same time develop their skills. He added that all of the Canje area should be proud of the players coming out of the club with special mention of Shimron Hetmyer who is already a senior national opener and is currently leading the West Indies Under-19 team in Bangladesh with great success.
Receiving the cheque on behalf of the club was first division skipper Wahied Edwards who thanked the sponsor for his continued support of the club. He called on the residents in the area to support the business so that it can give back to the community. He called on other businesses and private individuals to follow suit. Edwards reiterated the club’s motto of “Striving for excellence through cricket and education” and promised that it will be upheld despite the challenges.
Other sponsors on board so far are beverage giants ANSA McAL, Ashiek and Sons Motor Supplies and Auto Sales, Massy Distribution and Office Express.
This event will form part of Guyana’s 50th Independence Anniversary celebration with proceeds going towards further improvements to the club’s facilities and day to day running. In addition, funds will be allocated to three schools in the No.19 to Gangaram area.
The tournament will be played on Tuesday February 23, 2016, a national holiday and will involve ten second division teams from the area. It will be five overs a side with no first division cricketer allowed. Top clubs such as Canje Pathfinders, Betsy Ground Triple Stars, Kendall’s Union A, Rose Hall Community Center and the host are expected to take part. Incentives with the value of over $100,000 will be up for grabs with lots of gate prizes also available.
