The main prosecution witness in a murder trial has found himself before the court for allegedly assaulting his wife.
Travis Anthony Crandon, 39, of Angoy’s Avenue, New Amsterdam, Berbice, was on Friday placed on three charges of assaulting his wife, Donelle Amsterdam Crandon, a secretary employed by a security service.
Crandon appeared in the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs Marcus and was placed on $20,000 bail.
He is accused of assaulting his spouse on Sunday, December 13, Monday, December 14, and again on Sunday, January 4.
The case for the prosecution as presented by Prosecutor Sergeant Phillip Sheriff was that the couple has been married for 17 years and has three children.
He is accused of slapping his wife at their home on the first occasion following a misunderstanding. He subsequently beat her on another occasion while accusing her of infidelity and not taking care of the children.
The woman stated that she had been a victim of domestic violence for a number of years, but chose not to make a report. The defendant is scheduled to return to court on March 18.
