Ministry of Public Infrastructure (MPI), in keeping with the nation’s goal of a green
economy, has budgeted $133M for the acquisition and preparation of a site for the storage of derelict vehicles.
This was according to the Minister David Patterson during his presentation at the 2016 Budget Debate.
Over the years, derelict vehicles have been stored along various thoroughfares along main roads, government-reserved lands, streets and even in the compound of public buildings.
It is a fact that not only do these derelict vehicles increase health and safety concerns, but they have also been described as “eyesores” by various individuals expressing their concerns on social, print other forms of media and fora.
The minister stated that the land, which is expected to be approximately 50 hectares, will be located along the Soesdyke/Linden Highway and will facilitate the compaction, along with storage of the derelict vehicles picked up from across Guyana.
This initiative is under the Guyana Restoration Project.
