Police have finally captured Trevor Anthony Amsterdam, who was wanted for the execution-style killing of murder suspect Jermaine Simon, called ‘Lapsy’ some three months ago.
A police official said that Amsterdam, called ‘Solgee,’ was arrested yesterday at a house at Providence, East Bank Demerara. Police had issued a bulletin for Amsterdam in connection with the gunning down of Simon on November 10, 2015 in Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara.
Simon was reportedly shot in the head while riding a bicycle. A sister said she witnessed his execution, and also claimed that the gunman, subsequently identified as Amsterdam, had an injured leg and was using crutches. She also alleged that after shooting her brother, the gunman spoke to someone on his phone, announcing that he had killed Simon.
Amsterdam was said to be a member of a gang dubbed “A Menace to Society.” Someone torched his family’s Lot 34, Norton Street, Bagotstown home shortly after the killing.
Amsterdam’s victim, Jermaine Simon, was himself wanted for the murder of 19-year-old Ryan Sooklall, who was riddled with bullets on March 1, in a Providence, East Bank Demerara shop.
Sooklall’s killing was said to have been linked to an ongoing feud between rival gangs.
Although police had issued a wanted bulletin for Simon, he was said to have been roaming Bagotstown freely, and was even operating a shop in that community.
