Play in the New Amsterdam League Cup football tournament continued on Sunday with one game at the Burnham Park with New Amsterdam United hammering Hope Football Club 5-1 to start their campaign in enterprising fashion.
Playing their first game of the competition the NA United unit looked united as they opened their campaign for championship honours.
Leonard Adams led the way with a hat-trick with strikes in the 23rd, 57th and 85th minutes, while Staffan Boucher in the 27th minute and Jamal Butts who scored in the 59th minute supported well.
For their part Hope FC got a goal off the boot of Dereck Taylor in the 53rd. NA United led 2-0 at half time. Cougars FC are the other team in the three team competition. Three teams are participating in the competition –namely Cougars Football Club, New Amsterdam United and Hope Football Club.
The competition is being played on a two rounds round robin basis. The game between Cougars and Hope Football Club ended in a 2-2 draw.
In a junior game which was played earlier, NA United blanked Hearts of Oak Masters FC 4-0. Scoring for NA United was Shi Munroe with a hat-trick while Dwayne Allen netted one.
The competition is expected to continue on Sunday with NA United taking on Cougars from 16:00hrs at the Burnham Park. That game will be preceded by an U15 game between HOAFC and Edinburgh All Stars
The competition is being organised by a group of football enthusiast including Sherwin Forde and Neil Humphrey. (Samuel Whyte)
