Guyana is the front-runner to host the 2016 Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Male and Female Under-16 Championships in July. This is according to news emanating from the CBC Annual Assembly in
The Bahamas last weekend.
The CBC U-16 Championships will qualify three teams to the 2017 CentoBasket U-17 Men and Women’s Championships. According to news reaching Kaieteur Sport, the official host will be announced next month.
The Caribbean Basketball Confederation is Sub-Zone of FIBA (The International Basketball Federation). The Annual Assembly was held under the auspices of the Bahamas Basketball Federation, with important steps taken to prepare national federations for the continent’s new competition system.
President of CBC, Glyne Clarke presided over the Assembly and laid the foundation for this year’s activities to include the National Federations Development Programme, Competitions, Clinics for Coaches and Referees.
FIBA Americas President, Usie Richards updated the Assembly on the Development in the Americas. CBC’s Vice President of Finance and Marketing, Patrick Haynes updated the Assembly on the International Basketball Foundation (IBF) initiative of the Antilles 3×3 International Youth Championships for territories in the Lesser Antilles.
FIBA’s President, Mr. Horacio Muratore and FIBA Americas President, Usie Richards, along with representatives from National Members Federations of Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Cuba, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, and the Virgin Islands attended the Annual Assembly.
Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) President, Nigel Hinds and Haynes, who is also a FIBA Governance Commission Board Member and the GABF Honorary General Secretary, represented Guyana at the prestigious Assembly.
