Dear Editor,
After years of pushing around i choose to seek your help through your most informative news paper .On the20/02/2012 my wife and I, made application for our old age pension in Corriverton at the age of 68 and we were given two slips of paper as proof of our application.
Our understanding was that we will began to receive our pension from the date of application. After three months have passed and other applicants of the same time began receiving their pension, I checked with the officer who received the applications.
Miss Gopaul responded saying she send our application to GT and gave me a telephone number to call one Mr.Banwarie which I did. He respond by saying he does not have any application with our names.
I demand that he check with his staff to see if they have them and he became annoyed that the rest of his conversation was unpleasant. I went to the Ministry of Social Services. At that time it was located near the Stabroek Market and met Mr. Banwarie who was again unhelpful.
I Made several trips to GT trying to get this issue resolved but of the most time the Minister or the officers are in a meeting. I met one Mr Monroe who examined the slips of the applications and promise to check by this time six months had passed.
I continued calling and visiting the Ministry then I began receiving my old age pension from January 2013 without making any new application.( I thought we were given a hard time because we are AFC members)
I continue to make call to the Ministry until one day one Miss Lagan came and visit my home and had a discussion with my wife, I keep following with the ministry and on 15/10/2014 the Hon Minister Jennifer Wesford called me and told me that she will be addressing the matter.
Then in 2015 elections came a new government was in place and I continued to call. I spoke with the following persons – Mr.Ricardo, John Adams, Banwarie, Miss Williams and Marlin and told them that I would like to speak to the Minister but I am told that I cannot talk the Minister,
I then call the Prime Minister ‘s office where I spoke with one Rohinie on three occasions who told me to call the Minister’s secretary. I did ,but I still cannot talk to the Minister but one Miss Williams told me that Banwarie say my wife must make a new application. Government. is budgeting money for pensioners based on the number of old people in the country and there is rumours out that is a racket going on with old peoples money which needs to be investigated .
A lot of people live and worked all our lives here and is deprived of a pension while there people who never worked and living in the streets and are getting their pension without a hassle, and here ministerial officials are seeking all avenues and techniques to deprive my wife of her old age pension because I putting up a fight .
