Magistrate Leron Daly sitting in the Providence Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday sentenced a Little Diamond, East Bank Demerara resident to three months imprisonment for stealing a battery from a minibus.
Abrahim Abdul, 49, pleaded guilty to a charge of simple larceny read to him. Particulars of the charge stated that on February 2, he stole a battery valued $55,000—property of Shazan Deen.
According to court facts, the two parties are known to each other. On the day in question, Deen made checks on his minibus BKK 7855 and found that the battery was missing. Further checks revealed that the vehicle’s trunk was opened and the door had been damaged.
Deen subsequently reported the matter to the police and identified Abdul as a suspect. Abdul was later taken into police custody, where he admitted to stealing the battery.
He was cautioned, arrested and charged with the offence.
The article was recovered and handed over to Deen.
