Dear Editor,
First of all, we would like to say a big thank you to your newspapers for your support in assisting us to promote our new group – ‘Christians Affected By Crime’ (CABC).
Our first session was held on Monday 11 January, 2016 at the National Library Conference Room and we are off to a great start. Based on the discussions at that session, we have developed four focus areas for the group.
The first is the ‘Intercession Programme’ which will comprise of our field team, who will go to sites where crimes are committed and anoint the area or buildings, of course after given clearance to the crime scene by the police. However, in cases where our team cannot physically visit the locations, they will utilize technology using telephone, text, Skype, email, What’s App or other. This team will also pray for and with the victims and persons who committed the crimes.
The second focus area is, the ‘Forgiveness and Release Programme’. This team will create a platform to bring victims and offenders together for forgiveness and release sessions. The environment will be created for: persons who have committed crimes and pleaded guilty in the courts and would like to ask forgiveness of the victims or their relatives to be able to do so; persons who are out of prison and would like to ask forgiveness of victims.; persons who were involved in criminal activities and have not be caught, or have not been before the courts or have not gone to prison but would like to ask forgiveness from victims or relatives of the deceased. This team would also put a structure in place for perpetrators to bring stolen articles to the group and an arrangement will be put in place for the articles to be returned to the victims. This team will work closely with the courts and the prisons.
The third area is the ‘Mothers of Love’ Programme, This programme will be for mothers of offenders. Mothers whose sons or daughters would have died while committing crimes. This team will focus on providing support for each other which will include: mothers sharing their experiences hurts and pains with each other and learning how to forgive and get healing. It will also focus on personal development for the mothers, professional development (skills training) for the mothers and economic development (small business, etc) for them.
The first session of the ‘Mothers of Love’ programme will be on the 13 February, 2016 at the National Library Conference Room from 09:00 – 12:00 hours. All mothers with this experience are invited and they would be welcomed with open arms. Refreshments will be provided free and the session is also free
The fourth programmme is the ‘Children of Purpose’ programme. This programme is for children of offenders whose fathers and mothers died while committing crimes are in prison or are involved in criminal activities. The focus will be to provide support for the children so that they can live normal lives and maximize their talents and fulfill God’s purpose for their lives, to provide educational support for the children, to create opportunities, assist in increasing choices for the children and to provide personal development and mentoring support.
Our overall mission is: ‘To reduce crime in Guyana so that the country could become one of the safest places to live and do business’, this is also our daily declaration. Our theme is: ‘One would put a thousand to flight, two would put ten thousand to flight’…and ‘for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but they are mighty through God to the pulling down of the strongholds of the enemy’ The programme for the second session to be held on Monday 8 February, 2016 from 17:00 – 19:00 hours at the National Library Conference Room, will include prayers and identifying persons to volunteer in the four programme areas.
We are therefore extending this invitation to all; including but not limited to Christians, Pastors, Leaders of churches, intercessors and other persons who are interested in joining in agreement with us in our fight to reduce crime in our beloved country.
