After two gruelling days of competition among 65 students drawn from schools across Guyana, the finalists of the inaugural Children Career Day Competition will face off for the last time tomorrow, at the Theatre Guild on Parade Street, Kingston.
The landmark event which is being organised by Assured Services, a small business company that provides professional business services in the areas of Marketing, Public Relations, Data Entry, Research & Analysis and Graphic Designs, saw students give demonstrations on a prospective career that they would have chosen, before a panel of judges.
Students chose professions such as Agronomy, Medicine, Farming, Neurology, Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Acting, and Food and Nutrition among others, as careers of choice, and made impressive practical presentations on how the respective occupations are conducted.
Manager of Assured Services Natheeah King-Mendonca, in commenting on the initiative, first congratulated the schools for the overwhelming response the event received and thanked the students, who according to her came well prepared for their respective career choice demonstrations.
She added that the purpose of the initiative is for the participants to obtain a better understanding of the changes that impact the local, regional and global economies, especially when it comes to the labour market, while also stressing the importance of them being introduced to various occupations, and at the same time direct their thinking towards decision-making for future careers.
The competition was divided into two age categories – 11-13 years and 14-16 – and comprises two segments, the demonstration and interview.

Prizes will be distributed to the top three in each age group, while overall prizes will go to the two winning schools along with trophies.
In the 14-16 years category, the winner will receive $75,000 and a trophy, while the runner-up and third place take home $50,000 and $25,000 respectively, in addition to trophies.
