Newly sworn-in Minister within the Ministry of Communities, Valerie Adams-Patterson says that as the new Minister responsible for Housing, she intends to shake up the Housing Department and make it better prepared to
respond to the needs of Guyanese.
Adams-Patterson made this statement to media operatives, minutes after she took the Oath of Office yesterday morning, in front of President David Granger in the Rupununi Room of the Ministry of the Presidency.
The Minister, who will now become a member of the cabinet, promised that better will come from the housing sector under her watch.
“I am always a hard worker and I do not intend to stop now. I am promising the people of Guyana that better will come and that some of the objectives that we have and that we want to see become a reality, I will make it happen with the people who are there and I know I have their support”, she assured.
Minister Adams-Patterson explained that she met with senior staff members of the Ministry already, and was brought up to date with initiatives of the Department of Housing. She said she wants the Ministry to reach a stage soon where land applications are dealt with in an expeditious manner so that the long backlog of house lot applications will be remedied.
The new Minister, who is also the Member of Parliament for Region 10, is hoping to ensure that the process for a house lot application would be completed within three months.
Patterson has considerable knowledge and experience in the area of administration and management, and President David Granger yesterday said that her experiences served as the driving force behind his decision to make her a Minister within the current administration and a member of the cabinet.
Patterson has replaced Minister Keith Scott who has been moved to the Ministry of Social Protection.
Minister Scott was among other Ministers present at the swearing-in of the new Minister.
