During yesterday’s session at the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB), bids were opened for the construction of a brick prison, under the Guyana Prison Service (GPS), phase IV.
It is understood from a prison official that this is a structure which was located at the Camp Street Prison location. Works commenced on the facility in phases back in 2011, in order to make it more conducive for inhabitation.
At present, the complaints about overcrowding at the Georgetown prison are numerous. Minister of Public Security, Khemraj Ramjattan commented on this during a visit to the facility in October.
He had revealed that once the brick prison structure is ready for inhabitants and prisoners are transferred, remedial works would be done on the vacated old blocks.
The engineer’s estimate for phase IV was $84.9M.
Meanwhile, bids were opened under the National Frequency Management Unit (NFMU), for the procurement of spectrum monitoring equipment.
There were also bids opened for the construction of offices at the Parliament Office of Guyana. The engineer’s estimate for this was $2.7M.
Under the Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC), there were bids for the provision of security services. Three companies bid for this.
Meanwhile, under the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, there were bids for the construction of timber revetments at New Forest, Canje River, Berbice, Region number six. The engineer’s estimate was $36.6M.
Also under the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, there were bids for the rehabilitation of the No. 66 Corentyne steel truss bridge, Region No. 6. The engineer’s estimate was $28.6M.
Meanwhile, police at Port Kaituma are slated to have their Officers’ quarters rehabilitated. During a recent visit to the community, complaints had been made about its deplorable state. The bids for the project, under the auspices of the Ministry of Public Security, were opened yesterday. It is estimated to cost $9.9M.
Meanwhile, bids were opened for the rehabilitation and remodeling of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) bond, at Coldingen, Region No. 4. This contract is the phase I aspect. The engineer’s estimate was $26.5M.
And finally, there were also provisions for phase II of the GECOM, Coldingen project. The engineer’s estimate was $13.3M.
