Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) all-rounder Winston Forrester was influential in the Ontario Cricket Academy/Overseas Cricket Club (OCA/overseas) winning the Premier Division league which was contested recently in Canada.
Forrester finished the season with 499 runs including one century and two fifties, 32 wickets with his best figures being 10 overs, 4 wickets, 12 runs and the most catches 21. He helped OCA/Overseas to the final in the playoffs which they lost to Victoria Park CC. In the semi final game, OCA/Overseas beat Lord’s CC by 63 runs.
Forrester slammed eight fours in a top score of 76 as his team posted 206 all out in 49.4 overs, batting first at Maple Leaf CC. Another GCC player Chidanand Shiwram supported with 36. Raja Imran grabbed 5-11 and Siddiqi Naveed took 3-62 for Lord’s CC who were bowled out for 143 in 35 overs in reply. Faruqui Ali made 38, Amtiaz Ahmad 22 and Naveed 19. Nico Adams captured 4-35 and Forrester 3-40.
Forrester said he was satisfied with his performance adding that it has been a successful season for the club. “I am very proud of my achievements; it shows that I have matured as a limited overs bowler. I looked to contain the batsmen and build pressure and as a result my captain gained trust in me”, he stated.
The all-rounder pointed out that it was a wonderful experience. “I enjoyed playing for the club especially since there was a lot of pressure on both local and overseas players to perform. They possess many quality players including Nikhil Dutta, Rayyankhan Pathan, Darius De Souza, Akash Gill, Abraash Khan who have all played for Canada.”
“I am looking forward to take my form home as my hopes of playing cricket at the highest level are still alive. I am prepared to work hard and leave the rest up to God and the selectors.” he said.
