Guyana produced another strong performance to earn a 2-2draw against Brazil to end as runner-up in Pool ‘A’ and a place in the semi-finals of the Pan American Hockey Federation (PAHF) Challenge which continued yesterday in Chicklayo, Peru.
Once again leading marksman Aroydy Branford was Guyana’s hero as he lashed in both goals in the 12th and 51st minutes respectively to guarantee the Guyanese stickmen a place in the final four where they await the winner which is most likely to be Venezuela on Friday.
The Guyanese took the lead in the 12th minute through a field goal from Branford and enjoyed a 1-0 lead at the half. However, the Brazilians responded in quick succession after the break when Vehrle-Smith Stephane scored a penalty corner, before Paixao Lucas netted in similar fashion one minute later to give them a 2-1 advantage.
Bradford, who is among the top goal scorers in the tournament, was again to the rescue of the Guyanese when he pierced the goalkeeper with a penalty shot as the scores remained leveled when the final whistle sounded.
