Dear Editor,
Kindly permit me space to correct inaccuracies/misconceptions in an article published in your newspaper dated September 30, 2015 titled, Good ‘try’ for Guyana’s rugby – written by Edison Jefford.
Sabola Gray is not a former national player. She represented Guyana at the June 13 – 14 NACRA 2016 Olympic Qualifier Sevens in Cary, North Carolina.
Peter Green – Elected President in 2013. In June 2014 the Men’s team won the Caribbean 15s title after a hiatus of 43 years and in December won their seventh 7s title. The six titles were won 2006 – 2011.
Terrence Grant – Resigned as Honorary Secretary in September 2005 after 14 years in office. On Saturday June 7, 2014 after Guyana had defeated Trinidad and Tobago to win the NACRA South Zone 15s title, the then Captain Ryan Gonsalves and others approached and urged that I return as Honorary Secretary. I agreed to serve and was elected at the AGM held on Sunday July 27, 2014.
Prior to my return as Honorary Secretary, my involvement in rugby was limited to working with Match Officials at the Domestic and international level either as Head Official or CMO (Coach of Match Officials).
Kindly note, I hold no brief for either Ms. Sabola Gray and/or Peter Green.
Yours faithfully,
Terrence Grant
