President David Granger yesterday handed over laptop complete with a printer, headphones, a DVD writer and a flash drive to Ceion Rollox an 18-year old, visually impaired first year student of the University of Guyana.
Rollox, who resides at Sophia, lost his sight at the age of 14. However, this did not prevent him from achieving academic success at the Caribbean Secondary Examination Certificate (CSEC) exams, through the Guyana Institute for the Blind.
He wrote to President Granger seeking assistance to acquire a laptop, which would enable him to use special software with speech synthesisers as he pursues a Degree in Communications.
The President, while handing over the items, said that as a matter of policy, he is committed to supporting all forms of education.
He said, “We do not regard the loss of sight as an impediment but as an opportunity for you to fulfill your educational objectives by different means.”
