Dear Editor,
Allow me to highlight to the general Guyanese nation about a Police Sergeant who works at the Charity Police Station in the Essequibo (G Division) district.
Mr Editor, there is a Hotel/Bar and Disco obliquely opposite the Charity Catholic Church, just a short distance over the other side of the public road, and a public cottage hospital not too far off from this said disco.
The Charity Police Station is a stone’s throw away as the same with the two other places stated above.
Mr Editor, every Monday after the Magistrate’s Court is adjourned, this disco will start to play loud and thunderous music; the music would be so loud that people living at least half mile from this disco would feel the vibrations of the music; so imagine what is happening to the residents close by.
Mr Editor, during the hours of this lawlessness, the Sergeant could be seen patrolling the area of this disco but does not have the initiative to know right from wrong as he seems to enjoy what is happening in front of him. My concern and questions of this Sergeant are; does this man carry any pride with him with his uniform on? Is he not ashamed to encourage this kind of lawlessness taking place in full view of his eyes?
Does he have a connection to God, knowing that the Catholic Priest complains bitterly about this situation and he just listens and does nothing about it?
If you cannot protect a place of worship with the long arms of the law in your hands then what are you fit for?
Mr Editor, I feel this man is not fit to be a simple Constable much less a Sergeant. I must not forget to mention the Divisional Commander on this matter.
I am wondering if he is aware of this issue at hand in Charity; if not, Sir, you must do your groundwork in Charity.
Mr Editor, school has reopened for the new term and students will be trying to settle in the catholic dorms and have their brief with the priest, but presently the music is pounding so loud that it is impossible to carry on any activities pertaining to the church programs.
Right now I am tempted to report this lawlessness to the police but then again this matter is with the Charity Police Station pending action for a long time.
So I prefer to publish this matter in the news media to highlight what is taking place at Charity.
Mr Editor, could it be that the tentacles of corruption by the rich and powerful have a grip on the police at Charity and further afield?
Catholic member
