A Berbice teacher was yesterday remanded to prison after he was accused of robbing a woman at gunpoint. He appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts before Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan.
The teacher, Timothy Sampson, 29, of Number 45 Village West Berbice, is accused of robbing Indranie Singh of $100,000 in cash. At the time he was said to be in the company of others, while he was armed with a gun on August 5. The robbery occurred at Number 45 Village Berbice.
Additionally, it was alleged that Sampson discharged a loaded firearm at several police officers.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded to prison until September 11.
Police Corporal Deniro Jones, the prosecutor, did not relate any facts about what transpired on the day in question. Further, Jones objected to the defendant being granted pre-trial liberty.
The court was told that Sampson was placed on $40,000 station bail before the charges were subsequently instituted against him.
Meanwhile, in another case, on Monday shop owner Linden Hodge of 63 Cross Street, Alexander Village was remanded to prison after he allegedly stole a motorcar while brandishing a gun.
Particulars of the charge stated that Hodge, and others robbed Mervin Persaud of a car valued $2M and a BlackBerry cell phone. Hodge, 43 denied the charge before Magistrate Mc Lennan. Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Neville Jeffers informed the court that the car was recovered.
Hodge will be making his next court appearance on September 8, when he will appear before Magistrate Alex Moore.
