Host Everest Masters defeated Oral Experts of Trinidad and Tobago by 35 runs in a 25-over fixture on Saturday. Led by a fine 84 from Hemraj Garbarran, the host posted a respectable 193 all out in 19.2 overs after they elected to bat.
Garbarran added 77 for the second wicket with Sahadeo Hardaiow (17) after opener Shaheed Mohamed went for eight with the score on 13. Garbarran stroked the ball nicely on both sides of the pitch, hitting twelve fours and one six before he was bowled by guest player Ramnaresh Sarwan towards the later stages of his team innings.
Sunil Dyal struck three fours and fours maximums in a robust 45 while extras assisted with 32. Sarwan picked up some quick wickets in his second spell to finish with 4-12 from 4.2 overs while Rajiv Soomarie claimed 2-20.
Skipper Devindra Maharaj and guest player Bhaskar Yadram gave the visitors a rousing start as they added 35 for the first wicket before Yadram was caught and bowled by Rakesh Gangaram for 13.
Maharaj was then joined by Sarwan who showed glimpses of his class, adding 67 for the second wicket with his captain.
Sarwan clobbered five fours and two sixes before he was smartly caught at the wicket by Joseph Perry off Johnny Azeez for an even half century while Maharaj who reached the boundary nine times was needlessly run out for 49. Off-spinner Anwar Rahaman and Azeez then combined to restrict the scoring as Oral Experts finished on 158-8 in 25 overs. Rahaman grabbed 3-21 and Azeez 3-40. Garbarran was given the man-of-the-match award; Everest received a trophy compliments of Trophy Stall while both teams exchanged tokens after the game. (Zaheer Mohamed)
