DEAR EDITOR,
It is time for Guyanese to realize that the opposition PPP\C is on a negative agenda and approach towards this government and Guyana’s development towards the future. This was shown during the Budget Debate in Parliament, whereby most of the things its members said were lies and further efforts to brainwash their supporters.
I wonder if these people really care for Guyana at heart. I heard opposition speakers calling for the APNU+AFC Government to stick to its election promises and give farmers $9,000 per bag of paddy; for pension to be doubled; for the $10,000 cash grant to be reinstalled; for Amerindians to be given the CSO stipends; for further reduction of the Berbice Bridge Toll, etc. But these demands are mere gimmicks just to make their supporters feel that they were doing a very good job when they were in Government. We all know that under the now opposition leader and then President Jagdeo and his ministers, Guyana became the most corrupt country in the Caribbean and the second poorest.
The opposition MPs don’t want to admit that when the APNU+AFC government took office it inherited a country full of corruption and crime, cash-strapped rice and sugar industries, an almost bankrupt country, the PetroCaribe Fund empty, a public service full of political appointees that do just party work, and most of all a country waiting to be buried, with its people suffering from discrimination at all levels because of autocratic rule and bad governance.
APNU+AFC has committed to the people through its manifesto that there will be equal opportunity and good life for all. And since taking office we have seen that process taking shape.
APNU+AFC has done well in its first 100 days and must be credited for functioning under the sad conditions and slow economy inherited from the PPP\C. And people must remember that it was not a 100-days manifesto, it’s a five-year plan for overall development of Guyana.
