DEAR EDITOR,
Please allow me to respond to a letter by Vishnu Bisram published in your July 28th, 2015 edition, under the caption “No Place For Politics of Revenge”, and also to an article on the said date under the headline “PPP again accuses Gov’t of ‘extravagant spending’”, expressed by Clement Rohee, the general secretary of PPP\C, on his party’s behalf.
Firstly, Vishnu Bisram should speak to the PPP about his take on witch-hunting during its years in government. Bisram fails to tell this nation and the world that it was the PPP/C that started the process of hiring their own groups of persons who were not qualified or had no experience for the posts. Bisram needs to ask the PPP/C why so many qualified and experience Guyanese were not hired during its reign? Why incompetent persons were put to run a number of state agencies? Why young professionals were never given the chance to hold top-notch government positions?
Bisram went on to mention the way jobs are being given out under this new administration. He should ask Rohee, who is crying witch-hunting every day, about discrimination when they were in office.
Bisram should tell the people of Berbice why their regional chairmen since 1997 have been Indians alone. He should tell us why almost everyone at NCN’s Berbice operations and BRHA administrators were Indians. He should say why almost 60% of Amerindian could not find jobs in their villages during the PPP years. Bisram must talk to real Guyanese not PPP supporters alone.
And I don’t know why it is that Rohee is still crying as to the way APNU+AFC is doing its thing; or maybe it’s because this Gov’t is behaving in a more accountable manner than the PPP\C used to.
Rohee talks of the occasions that were sponsored and hosted by Friends of the APNU+AFC administration and the amount spent. Well Mr. Rohee, maybe you fail to understand that almost every Guyanese that attended the event at the National Stadium took care of themselves – unlike the PPP/C that sponsored everyone’s transportation, drinks and meals for functions.
Rohee talks of the President’s Birthday celebration, but fails to tell us when they were in power how much money was used to host the celebration for Bharrat Jagdeo and also how much was spent on the ‘Champion’ billboards for same. Tell us how much money was spent for the shows at State House. Tell us about the millions of taxpayer dollars spent to fix Ministers’ teeth.
Rohee must think before he speaks. This government wants to make sure that it uses taxpayers’ monies in the most appropriate way and at the same time have accountability. So for Rohee to talk about this government spending extravagantly is nonsense.
Rohee should be happy now that there is an administration whose mandate is to make Guyana a better place with accountability and equal opportunity for all.
I won’t blame Rohee and Bisram, it’s hard for them to accept the ‘baby party’ is over.
