A fine all-round performance by Delvin Currency guided the visiting St. Leonard’s Secondary School of St. Michael, Barbados a comfortable 107-run victory over a Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) second division XI in a 45-over contest yesterday at Bourda.
Currency stroked 41 off 63 balls as St. Leonard’s posted 146 all out in 44.5 overs after they were inserted on a difficult pitch.
Currency added 43 for the fourth wicket with Jamar Ifill to steady the innings before he was bowled by medium pacer Deonarine Seegobin. Ifill hit three fours and one six in scoring 36 but also succumbed to Seegobin after he had faced 32 balls. Opener Jamar Ifill was the only other batsman that made any significant score, hitting 22 off 57 deliveries. Seegobin bagged 6-18 off 6.5 overs while left arm spinner Stephon Wilson claimed 2-28 off nine.
GCC never recovered after a poor start and were sent packing for 39 in 24.4 overs in reply. Jadan Edmond removed openers Manny Forde (00) and Samuel McKenzie (02) to leave the score at 9-2. Martin Pestano Belle occupied the crease for sometime, but after he was dismissed for 13, the innings went down hill as Currency finished with 5-10 off seven overs and Edmond 4-11 from 5.4 overs.
