Former Guyana National Basketball Player Heinrod David, who now resides in the United States of America and played for the Hi Flyers Basketball Club while domiciled in Guyana, remembered his country of birth and has made a significant contribution.
David through the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) and the Berbice Amateur Basketball Association (BABA) donated over forty pairs of sneakers to clubs, and to male and female players in the Ancient County. The donation was made on behalf of David by President of the GABF Nigel Hinds on August 2nd at the Vryman Erven Basketball Court in New Amsterdam, Berbice.
Heinrod David, who represented Guyana Senior National Basketball Team between 1985 and 1995, currently resides in Maryland, USA. David coaches U11 basketball and his team won the U11 USA National Championships in 2014.
Hinds, who travelled to Berbice with the footwear to facilitate the donation, was assisted by Keith Myers president of BABA, who was on hand to facilitate the donation, along with basketball executives Vibert Garret, and Kirk Fraser from the Berbice Basketball Community.
The players expressed their heartfelt thanks for the kind and timely donation which will go a very far way in helping them to enhance their game.
They asked Mr. Hinds to express their sincere gratitude to David on their behalf and gave the assurance that that the pieces will be used entirely for the purposes intended. (Samuel Whyte)
