Police have detained three men and are hunting for a third following a gunpoint robbery at Coomaka, Linden, at around 13.00 hrs yesterday, in which gunmen relieved a sawmill owner of $1M and a licenced firearm.
The victim, Naresh Pooran, 43, of Enmore, East Coast Demerara, was at Coomaka, Linden, when two men, including one with a handgun, relieved him of his money and a licenced .32 pistol.
A police official said ranks cordoned the area and managed to intercept a vehicle with three men inside at Nottinghampshire, Linden.
The ranks searched the vehicle HB 4064, and found the stolen firearm, 859,000.00 and an unlicensed .38 revolver with three rounds.
Sources identified one of the suspects as Junior Melville, who has had previous brushes with the law. Kaieteur news understands that police are also searching the swampy area for a fourth man, identified as Percy Griffith.
