Pedestrian, Byron Persaud, 46, of Middle Street, Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara was killed when he was struck down around 20:00hrs on Saturday night.
According to police report, Persaud was attempting to cross the road at Vryheid’s Lust when a motor vehicle slammed into him, causing his untimely demise.
He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
The driver of the vehicle is in police custody assisting with investigation.
Meanwhile, two young men are lucky to have escaped serious injury after the motorcycle on which they were travelling slammed into the rail of the Demerara Harbour Bridge.
Injured are Lloyd Prince, 23, of Middle Street Le Penitence, and pillion rider Damion Skeete, 28, of Crane Housing Scheme.
Kaieteur News understands that Prince had swerved from a car and crashed into the rail of the bridge, sometime after 14:00 hrs yesterday.
“A car mashed sudden brakes in front ah we so we couldn’t like stop. So we end up running into the rail…” lamented Prince who was bleeding from a gash on his forehead and abrasions about his body.
Skeete had minor abrasions and a suspected fracture to his right thumb. Kaieteur News understands that instead of rendering assistance, the driver of the car who had allegedly caused the accident, sped off.
With the aid of a taxi the two men managed to find medical attention at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
