Police are trying to locate three bandits who shot a Henrietta New Housing Scheme, Essequibo, businessman and fled with $150,000, a quantity of phone cards and a laptop computer at around 22.30 hrs on Saturday.
Mark Warner, 47, who was shot in the left leg, said the men were armed with two “big guns” and an assault rifle.
Speaking from his hospital bed, Warner said that the incident occurred at his business operations, Anil’s Cool Place Liquor Restaurant and Bar, at Henrietta New Housing Scheme.
Warner said he was just about to close for the night when three armed men entered and demanded cash. Warner said at first he attempted to negotiate with the men but they were persistent in their demands.
Warner said one of the men shot him after the robbers led to the kitchen area to retrieve the day’s sales from his wife, Roxanne Warner, and could not find her, since she had concealed herself.
He said the money was secured in a purse in the kitchen.
No customer was present when the shooting occurred.
Despite being shot, Warner said that he drove to the Anna Regina Police Station. Police subsequently transported him to the Suddie Public Hospital where he was admitted.
