DEAR EDITOR,
What am I missing?
What exactly are the charges against ex-Minister Jennifer Westford?
As far as my understanding goes, there was an amnesty offer to all and sundry who appropriated, ‘legally’ or otherwise, government property. Come forward now and own up. Otherwise the full weight of the law will be exercised when any discovery of unlawful appropriation is uncovered.
Did ex-Minister Westford act in accordance with the amnesty offer? Did she not return the allegedly illegal transfers of various vehicles? So why is she now being charged?
Again, what exactly are the charges against ex-Minister Jennifer Westford?
I am here in Region 11 (Canada) and at a function Thursday evening, I got to talking with a ‘pseudo politician’ on this matter, and the comments I got were in keeping with the mind of a ‘pseudo politician’, to wit, 1. the current government has to quite early give the populace the clear impression that they are serious in their work;
2. the immediate charges against the ex-minister do show the serious outlook of the current government, irrespective of the amnesty;
3. that the action is against a ‘non-indian’, and would indicate to those who are the others, that they too could be prosecuted. In other words, there will be no holds barred, whoever you are.
In my view, once ex-Minister Westford acted in response to the amnesty offer, all matters pertaining to the subject property are covered by the amnesty. There can be no division of the subject into fraud, theft, collusion or whatever. They are all covered by the amnesty.
