The Hearts of Oak Masters Football Club of Berbice is in the midst of conducting their 18th annual “Teach Them Young” Football holiday Camp in New Amsterdam. However this did not stop the members of the organization from finding the time to conduct a two day teach them young camp for members of the Central Corentyne areas.
The two day activity which was used by the club as part of their aim of spreading the game throughout Berbice, was successfully held at the Manchester Community Centre, Corentyne Berbice on Wednesday and Thursday last.
The activity attracted over 40 youths, both males and females from areas such as Manchester, Liverpool, and Alness among other areas. The youths were eager to
learn and were taught the finer points of the game which included both theory and practical.
At the practical sessions they were shown the various ways in receiving, passing, shooting, dribbling, and heading, overlapping, Goalkeeping and throwing, Taking on the Thigh and Chest among other points. They were also schooled in defensive, attacking, overlapping and set playing among other tactics. They also learnt the rules of the game, Discipline, etiquette, good table manners, HIV and AIDS and general education with Physical fitness and fair play being an integral part of the sessions.
The course facilitators were Neil “Grizzly” Humphrey, Kenrick Bowry, Randy Sears, Ecliff Peters among others.
According to Coordinator Humphrey, apart from spreading the game, it was to help the youths to better able to appreciate the rules and regulation and improve their knowledge of the game, improve their overall skills and understand sportsmanship and have a better human relationship with others.
