– Benjamin doubles up with Triple Jump win
Defending Champions in the Guyana Police Force Inter-Division Championships, Headquarters took a 21-point lead against ‘A’ Division yesterday at the National Track and Field Centre on the West Coast of Demerara.
Headquarters amassed 196 points to lead ‘A’ Division’s 175 points after 16 Finals on the second day of the competition that concludes tomorrow. ‘C’ Division and ‘B’ Division are trailing in the distance with 58 and 51 points respectively.
Jumper, Yoel Benjamin, representing ‘A’ Division sprang to 14.00m in the Men’s Triple Jump to win the event for a field events double after he won the Long Jump on Tuesday. Clarence Greene was second with 13.76m and Kareem Punch third with 13.62m.
Headquarters’ Stacey Wilson won the Women Javelin Throw with 30.62m ahead of Trinidad and Tobago’s Nikita Thomas (26.70m) and ‘C’ Division’s Latoya Rodney (26.22m).
Nathaniel Giddings clocked 16.51.4 to win the 5000m for Headquarters ahead of Grivon Grant (17.26.0) and Quacy Morian (18.17.9) respectively. Shion Boyer was the Women 3000m winner for ‘A’ Division with 12.42.1 ahead of Headquarters’, Dellie Williams, who posted 13.35 and Wilson (14.14).
Joanna Archer won the 800m Youth Club Girls race in 2:32.9 with Tabitha Bowman (2:41.8) sec second and Kezia Bess (2:46.2) third. Headquarters, Tiffany Carto won the Female 800m in 2:32.4 while Boyer (2:37.1) was second and Williams (2:49.1) third.
Bess sprinted to victory in the Girls’ 200m in 25.7 seconds with Archer (28.3) second and Aaliyah Thompson (31.4) third. Tyrell Peters won the Boys’ race in 23.2 seconds ahead of Ameer Yussuf (23.6) and Coby Scott (24.1).
Winston Dummett won the Male ‘B’ Class 800m in 1:59 ahead of Headquarters’, Grivon Grant (2:01.8) and Jayan Johnson (2:03.1) respectively. The competition concludes tomorrow at the same venue.
