Forty-three-year-old Ramotar Rampersaud, of 39 Lusignan, East Coast Demerara, who is a self-employed salesman, made his appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to answer the charge of fraud.
It was alleged that on February 3, 2015 in Georgetown, he received from Eon Rodriquez two fuel pumps valued at $250,000 which he fraudulently converted to use at his own terms and benefits.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him by Magistrate Ann McLennan.
Prosecutor Dinero Jones had no objection to substantial bail because he said that the accused confessed to the crime stating that he had the items but that it was never presented to law enforcement.
When asked to confirm this, Rampersaud said that he gave a man whom he identified as Ronald Singh, of Berbice, to sell, but the man allegedly coveted the items.
Rampersaud was granted bail at $150,000 and his next appearance is expected to be on August 4.
