The August holiday season is here once again and as is customary, the Guyana Tennis Association (GTA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Education will host its regular holiday camp at the Guyana Racquet Centre, Woolford Avenue, Georgetown. The two weeks programme got underway yesterday morning when President of the GTA, Grace McCalman joined with coach, Shelly Ramdyhan, Ministry of Education official, Nicholas Fraser and Senior Physical Education Officer, Ceon Erskine at the venue and briefed the participants on the particulars of the programme.
Ms McCalman welcomed the children and urged them to have fun even as they are tutored in the introductory aspects of the sport. She expressed gratitude to the officials of the Ministry of Education and said that the current programme is supportive of the yearly P&P Insurance initiative. “We always felt that despite its value there was a need to support the P&P Insurance initiative and the input of the Ministry of Education is certainly timely and valued,” said Ms McCalman. She also said that the current camp would provide additional opportunities for young people who wish to learn the sport.
Ms Daly was also grateful to the sponsors and said that their input would enable her executives to continue facilitating youngsters’ involvement in the sport. She urged those parents in attendance to support their children and further enroll them in clubs after the (holiday) programme has concluded in continuance of their development.
The sessions will entail fun drills even as they serve to introduce the lads and lasses to the fundamentals of the sport. Sessions will culminate with a competition and the winners and runners up will receive medals and trophies.
