A sensational fifty from Darren Bravo (80*) set the platform for a crucial victory for bottom-of-the-table Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel against top-of-the-table Barbados Tridents.
Bravo’s thrilling 80 off 44 balls helped the Red Steel to an imposing total of 184-4 having won the toss and elected to bat. Bravo began his innings relatively slowly, scoring 36 off his first 32 balls before exploding at the death to blitz 44 from his final 12 deliveries.
He ended up hitting seven sixes including one huge 108 metre heave over the leg-side.
Bravo was assisted throughout much of the innings by Jacques Kallis who made a composed and important 49 off 43 balls. Kallis laid a useful foundation with opening partner Cameron Delport who scored 29 off 28.
The Red Steel’s run rate however only breached seven just once in the first 16 overs before Darren Bravo, in partnership with Dwayne Bravo tucked into the Tridents death bowling, plundering 50 runs from the final 24 balls. The target of 185 was a stiff one and the Tridents had to attack from the get-go.
Their chase got off to a steady start before the pressure did for Dwayne Smith in the third over when he was bowled through the gate by a googly from Samuel Badree. Ashley Nurse followed soon after and then just two balls later so did Dilshan Munaweera.
With Misbah-ul-Haq and Kieron Pollard still to call on however the Tridents had hope.
However when they were dismissed within seven balls of each other as the run-rate began to climb the match was quite suddenly over as a contest. Badree was sensational for the Red Steel taking 2-20 from his four overs while Dwayne Bravo took 3-16 as the home side eventually bowled the Tridents out for 112 to complete an impressive and hugely important 72 run victory.
