Guyana’s members on the West Indies team for this year’s Palma Match, Team and Individual World Shooting Championships set for Camp Perry, Ohio, USA from August 3rd to 14th continued preparations on Sunday last at the Guyana Defence Force, Timehri Ranges.
Speaking with Kaieteur Sport at the Timehri Ranges on Sunday last, Guyana and Caribbean Individual Champion Lennox Braithwaite informed that they shot at 300, 900 and 1000 yards, rain intervening towards the end of the 900 yards shoot but that apart, things are going well.
He noted that they are trying to get familiar with the format that would be used at the World Championships which is not the usual two or three shooters to a target like they are accustomed to.
He explained that they would be shooting one after the other (String Shooting) in the USA but not together.
“We are now trying to familiarize ourselves with this format and sequence as well as the rules which are also slightly different. The time for shooting at the various ranges will also differ from what we know.”
Competition will be at the 300, 800, 900 and 1000 yards ranges. Braithwaite said that plans have been going good so far, noting that the weather pattern at Timehri is not what they would have been accustomed to; lots of rain even whilst sun is blazing in on the East Bank and the City.
“It’s not the kind of weather pattern that we are accustomed to where you get winds going right or left. The flags are doing one thing and the mirage is doing another so you have to determine which one is true.”
Training will continue for the next two Sundays before the eight Guyanese members on the West Indies Team leave on July 29 to join the other team members from Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Antigua & Barbuda and Barbados in the USA. (Franklin Wilson)
