Dear Editor,
Permit me to make an observation in your paper to hopefully stimulate debate resulting in changes in our constitution for the better.
Parliament is a waste of taxpayers’ money due to the recall legislation. The Bills of the party with the majority will always be passed and those brought by the rest will be voted down to ensure political gains are not made by their sponsors. To elaborate on this is to insult the intelligence of my fellow Guyanese. In trying to argue myself into the position that the PPP should enter the house, I surprisingly realized this fact.
Our President should immediately stop all sittings; they cost over a million every time, and only reconvene to pass a Bill nullifying the recall legislation.
As the politicians negotiate this Bill to change, they can bring to the people the essence of their Bills via the media or special purpose e-vehicles for us to debate on the bridges, corners and through your letter columns.
Maybe this will invigorate democracy in Guyana.
