Orville Hinds started what will be a long and hectic weekend for local cyclists with victory in the feature race of the Banks Malta Supreme sponsored 11-race National park Cycle Meet yesterday.
The Evolution team member clocked One Hour 19 Minutes 49.90 Seconds to win the 35-lap contest ahead of Alanzo Ambrose, Stephano Husbands, Akeem Wilkinson, Robin Persaud and Jamal John.
The sprint prizes were shared by Hinds who captured two, John (2), Wilkinson (2), Ambrose (1), Persaud (1).
John enjoyed a fine day as he also cantered to victory in the juvenile 10-lap race in a time of 24 Minutes 11.69 Seconds. Andrew Hicks and Christopher Griffith were second and third.
Seon Budhan, Ozia Macually and Nicholas Alphonso were the top three in the 5-lap mountain bike event with Budhan clocking 13 Minutes 56.09 Seconds.
Ralph Williams topped the Under-50 veteran field, taking the 5-lap race from Jaikarran Sukhai and Shameer Baksh in 12 Minutes 51.89 Seconds. The Over-50 race went to Kennard Lovell ahead of Linden Blackman.
The 12-14 boys and girls contest produced a win for Daniel Pereira (7 Minutes 26.53 Seconds) with Casey Abrams second and Marica Dick in the 3-lap showdown.
In the BMX races: BMX 6-9 (2 laps) – 1st Alexander Leung, 2nd Jessica Mohabir 3rd Shay Sue Hang
BMX 9-12 (3 laps) – 1st Jonathan Jagdeo, 2nd Jeremiah Harrison
BMX 12-14 (3 laps) – 1st Jonathan Jagdeo, 2nd Taran Garbaran
Representing Malta Supreme at the presentation was Mr. Tony Ramcharran who thanked the riders and organizer for their part in making the event a success.
