Twenty-four year old football player, Dwayne Lawrence, of Lot 2499 Osamu Street, North Ruimveldt appeared before Magistrate Ann McLennan yesterday, after he was charged with attempting to commit murder.
He was released on $300,000 bail.
Lawrence is charged with the attempted murder of his former friend Kevin Aaron.
Around 12:05 hrs on April 10, 2015 at North Ruimveldt, an argument broke out between the two parties over money.
Lawrence reportedly took out a firearm and discharged two gunshots, which wounded Aaron in both of his thighs.
Lawrence’s attorney Mark Waldron said that Lawrence has a strong alibi. Further, he is a football player for Slingerz Football Club.
He claimed that at the time of the incident his client was in Suriname.
The lawyer offered Lawrence’s passport to the Magistrate to confirm his travel dates to and from Guyana.
Police Prosecutor, Corporal Deniro Jones, said that the bullet was removed from the victim’s body.
Lawrence is expected to make his next court appearance on July 22, at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
