Dear Editor,
On her Facebook page, Vindiya Persaud declared her concern about crime in Guyana…
“I am disturbed by the escalating crime around the country. Daily, many are losing their lives or are being beaten, robbed and terrorized. Our senior citizens are traumatised and living in fear. Persons visiting Guyana and businesses are targeted for crimes.
One lady told me that when she leaves home, she is afraid that she will not return safely. I was deeply affected by the pain in her voice. I am saddened when everyday, I read of persons who are killed or raped or beaten.
Our citizens need protection. They need to feel safe and secure not to be constantly paralysed by fear. Pardoning criminals has not helped.
This situation cannot continue …………..Every life is precious. WE need to live in a country where violence and crime are not the
order of the day!”
Editor, my question to Vindiya Persaud is….has she suddenly woken up like Rip Van Winkle? When she was a Member of Parliament, was she asleep when some of the most horrible crimes were happening?
P. Singh.
