Ayanna Brown, a mother of two, was yesterday rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), in an unconscious state following a fire which claimed the home of four occupants.
Brown shares the double flat of 54, Costello Housing Scheme, East La Penitence, with two young children and her fiancé Shawn Williams who was also taken to the hospital after he fainted at the scene.
The woman was at home at the time of the fire with her youngest child, but according to eyewitnesses, she may have already been unconscious since public-spirited persons had to jump the fence and break into the house to get her and the child out of the burning building.
She and her fiancé were taken to the East La Penitence Health Centre for treatment, but were proven to be a more severe case as an ambulance had to be sought to transport them to the Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) for further treatment.
The house is reportedly owned by an overseas-based Guyanese woman and Ayanna Brown is said to be a family friend. One of the owner’s relatives, who is employed just a stone’s throw away, recalled seeing smoke coming from the building and immediately shouted for help from persons in the vicinity.
According to eyewitnesses the fire allegedly started in the northern side of the upper flat of the house and quickly consumed the entire building.
