Heavy rainfall and flooding over the weekend had forced a number of schools to remain closed on Monday and Tuesday. Yesterday, the doors of many of those institutions were opened for normal attendance; however, six schools will remain closed to allow flood water to recede and to facilitate the cleaning and sanitizing of those facilities.
The Ministry of Education has advised parents and guardians that South Road Nursery, in Georgetown, and Prince William Street Nursery, Vryheid’s Lust North Nursery, Chateau Margot Primary, Vryheid’s Lust Primary and Montrose Primary, on the East Coast of Demerara (ECD) will remain closed today.
Meanwhile the Mayor and Councilors of the city of Georgetown has invited community groups between Agricola and Atlantic Ville to a special stakeholders meeting, in the council chamber at City, on Friday, June 5, 2015, at 10:00 a.m.
The meeting will be based on exploring options to enhance the ongoing clean-up activities around the city. There will also be a strong maintenance programme being put in place to keep Georgetown clean.
“The focus of the meeting is to engender community participation in Council’s programme to restore Georgetown.”
