Discussions to facilitate the proper disposal of a 50-foot whale carcass which was
discovered on Sunday on the Zorg foreshore are ongoing.
A senior officer of the Region Two Public Health Department, along with an engineer and the Regional Executive Officer met yesterday to discuss the issue.
From that discussion it was agreed that efforts to bury the mammoth whale, would take effect as soon as the tide receded late yesterday.
A senior Public Health Officer, who visited the Zorg foreshore yesterday morning, said that the whale has deteriorated to an extent which currently poses difficulties for its removal.
The Public Health Officer said that there was the consideration to throw some gasoline on the dead whale in order to minimise the smell of putrefaction. The officer added that a large hole would have to be dug in order for the whale to be buried on the foreshore once the tide recedes. Several years ago, a dead whale surfaced at the Aberdeen foreshore. That whale was similarly buried.
