A gardener was yesterday remanded to prison on a break and enter charge after he was unable to provide the court with his address.
Magistrate Annette Singh read the charge to Wilfred Tinnie, 43, who gave his address as Lot 209 Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara.
Particulars of the charge stated that on May 18, at Diamond, he broke and entered the dwelling house of Lloyd Muesa and stole one bottle of non alcoholic wine and five louvre panes valued $3,100.
Police Prosecutor, Adunni Inniss did not provide the court with any facts about what transpired on the day in question. However, she objected to the defendant being released on bail citing that he has no fixed placed of abode. Inniss informed the court that the man lives in the streets.
Upon hearing her statement, the accused became annoyed and replied “do not belittle me like that. I don’t smoke weed, drink…” He said that he sleeps outside in the yard under a shed at the aforementioned address.
The investigating rank then explained to the magistrate that he visited the address and was informed that the defendant does not reside there.
This matter was adjourned until June 4.
