Bail was set in the sum of $75,000 for a Linden man after he was accused of break and enter and larceny.
Orlando Forde of 19 Industrial Area Mc Kenzie, Linden, is accused of breaking and entering the shop of Bibi Omenio and stealing a quantity of snacks and beverages valued $15,000. He also reportedly stole $25,000 cash between March 2 and 3 at Mc Kenzie Linden.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.
Police Corporal, Sean Gonsalves related that on March 2, at about 21:00hrs the woman secured her shop after selling and headed home. The following morning, upon entering her shop, the victim noticed that it was ransacked. Checks were made and the woman noticed that the items mentioned in the charge were missing.
Omenio reported the matter to the police and an investigation was launched which led to the arrest of the defendant.
Gonsalves objected to the accused being released on bail citing the nature, prevalence and penalty attached to the offence should he be convicted.
However, his objections were overruled by the magistrate and bail was granted. The matter was transferred to the Linden Magistrate’s Courts for May 19.
