DEAR EDITOR,
So Jagdeo opined that the APNU+AFC Manifesto is “a waste of time”. Says who? Someone who has been in charge of Guyana’s economy since 1999 and has provided us an average growth rate of 2.7 percent since then? Says who? Someone whose policies failed to generate the eight percent growth the nations needs to uplift the lives of the 40 percent of our people who live in poverty?
Let us not fool ourselves, Donald Ramotar is not in charge, he is the pawn of the real power in the PPP.
For 15 years, the Guyanese people have given the Jagdeo cabal their support with all their glitzy manifestos and all they have offered to the people in return is a classic plunder of the treasury and tons of broken promises. So the real waste of the Guyanese people’s time is the Jagdeo cabal.
The primary problem in Guyana is poverty, lack of adequate jobs, lack of personal security, the fiscal deficit, the unsustainable increase of the national debt, the reckless depletion of the national reserves, and most importantly, the overwhelming culture of corruption.
What the APNU+AFC does offer the nation is an alternative to this Jagdeo narrative of promising to be a good boy on public policy with a national developmental framework but when given the trust of the people, he metamorphoses into the Freddie Kruger on public policies.
Under this Jagdeo cabal, law and order breaks down as illegitimate financial deals are retroactively legitimized at the expense of the Guyanese people.
What this Jagdeo/Ramotar cabal seems to be doing over the last three years, is to engage in public policies in a fiscally lax way by trading away the wealth of the nation in return for very little to the people. Case in point all these giveaway deals – first it was the radio waves, which we have literally given away in Guyana vs. Jamaica who got US$25 million for less spectrum.
Now they have spent billions on e-governance infrastructure and are essentially giving it away for peanuts. Same story with the Marriott Hotel – built with taxpayers’ money for over G$10 billion and being sold to a special investor for cents on the dollar.
What Jagdeo has not told the people is that Guyana is in a huge fiscal challenge for years now, where we continually have to borrow to pay our bills. We clearly are not earning more than we are spending. The end results if we continue with Ramotar and Jagdeo will be – more taxes for the people, low or no wage increases and depletion of public services (two people sleeping on the same hospital bed in present day Guyana is just the start).
But the Jagdeo/Ramotar cabal is desperate, since its members recognize where they are in the polls. As we speak, the PPP is at 45 percent and the APNU+AFC Coalition is at 49 percent. So expect absolute irrationality and insanity from the PPP over the next few days, since they have declared war on that undecided six percent. But statistically and practically, we all know that they cannot secure all six percent and thus they know and I know where they are heading.
