Edward ‘Screw’ Richmond Memorial Schools Football …
The semifinals of the 7th edition of the Edward ‘Screw’ Richmond Memorial football tournament will be contested tomorrow at the Wisburg School ground in the Bauxite Mining Town of Linden when Group A winner and defending champions Christianburg/Wismar take on Group B runners-up Mackenzie High and Group B winner Wisburg oppose Group A runners-up and inaugural champs Linden Foundation.
With three former champions in the mix for this year’s title, tomorrow’s action promises to be very exciting.
Meanwhile, on match day six, the final day of group matches, results were contrasting. Inaugural winners, Linden Foundation were gifted their three points and semifinal place via a walkover from Linden Technical Institute who were a no-show.
Mackenzie High were afforded no such luck as they had to tussle hard with a determined New Silvercity Secondary for their three points, prevailing 2-0 on account of goals from Taffon Alexander from the penalty spot in the 26th minute and an own goal from New Silvercity’s Brian Johnson in the 41st minute.
Despite being reduced to 10 players in the 50th minute when Deon Daniels drew a red card, Mackenzie High still prevailed.
The top two teams from both groups had to be separated using ‘Goal Difference’ since they were deadlocked on 7 points each.
